Reset for 2025: Time to get set, reflect and take action
Happy New Year! I hope you’ve had some quality time over the break—whether it was relaxing with family, enjoying long summer days, or maybe indulging in a bit too much pavlova and wine.
Hopefully, somewhere between the Christmas chaos and the New Year’s countdown, you’ve had a moment to pause and think about what you want out of 2025.
Here’s the thing: a new year is more than just a turn of the calendar. It’s a chance to reset—both personally and professionally. Whether you’re coming off the back of a challenging 2024 or one of your best years yet, now is the perfect time to reflect, plan, and take action.
Let’s break it down.
Start with you, the foundation for everything
Before we dive into the business side of things, let’s talk about you. Because here’s the truth: you can’t lead a high-performing team or drive growth if you’re running on empty.
What’s going to energise you this year? Maybe it’s spending more time with your family, focusing on your health, or ticking off a personal goal you’ve had on the backburner for years. Whatever it is, this is the year to make it happen.
But let’s be realistic – good intentions alone won’t cut it. Sitting here in January with a leftover slice of Christmas cake thinking, “I’ll start next week,” won’t get you where you want to go by December.
Here’s how to make it happen:
- Write down one personal goal for 2025 – make it specific.
- Block out time in your calendar for it. No excuses.
- Tell someone you trust so they can hold you accountable.
“Discipline equals freedom.” — Jocko Willink.
I love this quote, many people seem to react negatively to the word discipline, but it’s true. The discipline to prioritise yourself now creates the freedom to lead with clarity, energy, and focus all year long…. and beyond.
The business reset – what’s going to be different in 2025?
You left 2024 feeling drained and desperate for a break. It doesn’t have to be this way—how you run your business directly shapes how you and your team feel and perform throughout the year.
Every CEO knows January brings a sense of a fresh start, but it can also feel daunting. The goals, challenges, and opportunities ahead are staring you down, and deep down, you know something isn’t quite right. So, where do you begin?
Ask yourself these questions:
- Would you re-hire everyone on your team today? Be honest. If not, what needs to change?
- Can you state your strategy in one sentence? If you can’t, neither can your team. Simplify and refocus.
- What’s your profit engine? Know your number one money maker and prioritise it.
- Does your customer journey drive growth? Pinpoint where you’re losing customers and fix it.
- Are your processes working? Do they actually turn revenue into profit, or are there leaks?
You don’t have to solve everything at once, but you do need to pick one area to focus on this quarter.
Personal and professional alignment – find your flow
Here’s the magic: when you align your personal and professional goals, everything flows better.
Take a moment to ask yourself:
- What’s one habit or activity that will keep you energised this year?
- What’s one thing you need to let go of—personally or professionally—that’s draining your time and focus?
- By December, what’s the one thing you want to say, “I’m proud I achieved that”?
When your personal clarity feeds into your professional focus, you set the tone for your team, your business, and even your clients.
Your January challenge
Let’s not overthink it. Here’s your challenge:
- Write down one personal goal and one business priority for 2025.
- Decide what small step you’ll take this week to move toward both.
- Tell someone about it – your partner, your team, your coach – and commit to it.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, and it doesn’t have to be massive. But it does have to start now…. like right now, this minute.
Make 2025 Count
2025 is your chance to hit reset. Whether it’s finally getting that work-life balance right, aligning your team to a sharper strategy, or simply showing up as the best version of yourself, now’s the time to make it happen.
So, let’s go. Reflect, plan, act—and make this year count.
